Child development is an option subject that students can select to study in KS4. Across the two year course pupils will study topics such as family and parenting, physical development and community support. Whilst studying child development pupils will develop their knowledge and understanding of human needs within society as well as being able to evaluate choices and decisions humans make as consumers. This course is broken down into different sections allowing pupils to gain a broad knowledge about a wide variety of practical and theoretical topics. The topics include: health and well-being for child development, understanding the equipment and nutritional needs of children from birth to five years and understanding the development of a child from birth to five years.
Child development is only taught as a discrete subject in KS4.
