I am delighted to welcome you to our school, which is part of The Mead Educational Trust (TMET). In the secondary phase, we work closely with Rushey Mead Academy to provide the best education for children in our respective communities.
Before taking on the role of Executive Principal at Orchard Mead Academy, I was Principal at Rushey Mead Academy and most recently have been working as Director of Secondary Education at TMET. I am keen to ensure that the best approaches from Rushey Mead, which has been Ofsted Outstanding since 2007, are brought across for the benefit of children in the north east of our city. I am most ably supported in this endeavour by Mark Oldman, who is Director of Inclusion and Special Educational Needs at The Mead Educational Trust. Mr Oldham was recently voted as Headteacher of the Year in the Leicester Mercury Awards in 2019 so it is pleasing to have his huge expertise to support our students to achieve and thrive.
The Trust includes several of our feeder primary schools such as Willowbrook Mead Primary Academy, Thurnby Mead Primary Academy, North Mead Primary Academy, Rowlatts Hill Primary Academy and Kestrels Field Primary Academy. This makes for continuity of learning for these children and we also welcome students from other areas of the city.
Our school has been on a rapid journey of school improvement in recent years. To celebrate our transformation – and emphasise our connection with the Mead family of schools and our commitment to offering a first-class education – we changed our name to Orchard Mead Academy in September 2019.
We have high expectations of students and support them to excel in their learning. This is because we want all our students to achieve well, make the most of the opportunities offered in school and grow up to be well-rounded young people ready to play an active and positive role in the wider world.
We take pride in our challenging and well-designed curriculum that seeks to give all our students access to the best which has been thought, said, written and created in every field of human endeavour. This ensures that our young people receive a broad, rich and deep education. Alongside traditional subjects, sport, music and the arts are highly valued. This can be seen in the range of sporting clubs and achievements each year and our high quality drama and dance productions.
Students’ safety and well-being is of paramount importance. Our skilled pastoral support team ensure that students are helped to do their very best and are happy and supported in school.
We value the support and contribution made by parents and carers. We know that parents and carers are vitally important to our children’s success and we encourage our parents to stay in contact and be involved in the school.
Please look around our website to see what we have to offer, and do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.
