Health and Social Care is an option subject that students can select to study in KS4. Across the two year course pupils will study topics such as the rights of service users, role of service providers and how to communicate with service users. All the topics apply knowledge to a range of health and care settings, such as nurseries and care homes. Whilst studying HSC, pupils will develop their knowledge and understanding of human needs within society as well as being able to evaluate choices and decisions humans make as consumers. This course is broken down into different sections allowing pupils to gain a broad knowledge about a wide variety of practical and theoretical topics. The topics include: Principles of care in health and social care settings, supporting individuals through life events and health promotion campaigns. The course is 60% NEA (coursework) which will include designing a health campaign, and interviewing someone about key events in their lives and the effect on their lives these events played. The pupils will also get the opportunity to carry out practical activities, such as using PPE and looking at how to use sign language. We study the following course: OCR Cambridge National Level 1/Level 2 J835.
